Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) Unit



Health Systems Trust (HST) wishes to appoint a Driver Mobiliser for the South Africa Sustainable Response to HIV and AIDS (SA SURE) Plus project. The Driver Mobiliser will provide efficient and reliable transportation of HST staff and goods within and outside the district, and mobilise local communities towards accessing health services, link them to care, promote health, and support the district SA SURE team to improve its outputs. The position is based in Zululand District in  KwaZulu Natal Province.                                                                                          ​

This is a fixed-term contract position, renewable based on availability of funding.



  • Inspect vehicle/s prior to and after trips
  • Transport staff and visitors to and from the offices to supported sites, partners' offices and any other designated destinations
  • Ensure that the project vehicles are parked at the prescribed place at the end of each shift
  • Ensure safekeeping of keys and fleet cards in one's care when on duty, and timeous reporting to the Fleet Administrator of any loss/expiry thereof
  • Ensure that petrol slips, log sheets, etc. are forwarded to the Administrator timeously
  • Assist with loading and unloading HST merchandise/equipment and HST staff's luggage
  • Maintain the driver log-book
  • Ensure regular vehicle servicing, maintenance and renewal of licence registration disc
  • Ensure that the HST vehicles at the driver's disposal are kept neat and tidy at all times, and washed/cleaned as necessary
  • Report delays, accidents or other traffic situations to passengers and managers
  • Observe timekeeping and safe driving of vehicles
  • Mobilise men, adolescents and young adults in the supported area to improve PHC service uptake, especially for HIV, STI and TB services; motivate men to access VMMC, HTC and TB screening and to use condoms;
  • Organise and facilitate health promotion programmes for the community
  • Collaborate with existing  structures and events to mobilise men for HIV testing, VMMC, condom distribution, promotion of condom use and TB screening
  • Compile basic reports from data collected during activities.




  • Matric Certificate/Grade 12 or equivalent ABET qualification
  • A valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
  • A valid driver's licence
  • Certified advanced driving skills would be an added advantage.

Experience, competencies and skills

  • A minimum of five years' driving experience
  • A clean driving record
  • Exposure to a health service organisation
  • Communication skills – ability to read and write in English; oral and basic report-writing
  • Collaboration and co-ordination abilities
  • Ability to work individually with minimal supervision as well as in a team
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Residence locally
  • Knowledge of local routes
  • Orientation in health, mobilisation and health promotion.


A salary package commensurate with the successful candidate's experience and qualifications and in line with HST's job grading system will be offered.
