We have a vacancy for the position of Chief Executive Officer, who will provide leadership to the organisation, develop and execute strategic plans and organisational policies and ensure good governance of the HST, with the support of the Board of Trustees.

South Africans, like the citizens of many other African countries, suffer from a number of serious health problems. As a result, average life expectancy at birth has declined from 62 years in 1990 to a mere 43 years in 2006.

The Nelson Mandela Childrens Fund (NMCF) has, through the Goelama Programme since 2002, funded non-governmental organisations to support orphans and vulnerable children. The focus has been on strengthening households and support systems for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), promoting behaviour change to prevent further spread of HIV, and enhancing integration with local government services. Based on the fact that many children, including orphans, are dying of AIDS, without appropriate palliative care, an expansion of the NMCF Goelama approach is being developed. This is a collaboration between the Diana, Princess of Wales, Memorial Fund, the NMCF and the Hospice Association of South Africa.

HST wish to appoint a consultant to assist us in mapping the Global, Regional and National Environments to make specific recommendations as to how HST fits into this environment, and how HST can maximize its position and fund raising potential.

Reports in recent weeks suggest that health care in SA is in crisis.

A project proposal is a written document which describes the project you are planning to do. The Health Systems Trust (HST) uses your proposal to decide whether or not to fund your project. Your proposal should therefore try to convince us that your project is worth doing, that you know how to do it, and that you are an appropriate person to be doing this research. You also need to convince us why and how the results will have a beneficial effect on health systems in South Africa.
