The National Department of Health has embarked on an initiative to improve and expand access to healthcare services through the contracting of private General Medical Practitioners (GPs) to render sessional service in Primary Healthcare facilities. This initiative is in support of the National Health Insurance (NHl) pilot that aims to improve access to high quality public sector health care services. The Bill seeks to:
Amend the National Health Act, 2003, so as to provide for the establishment of the Office of Health Standards Compliance and, for that purpose, to insert, substitute or delete certain definitions; to delete, revise and insert certain provisions; and to provide for matters connected therewith.
Public hearings will take place on the 13, 14 & 16 March 2012 at Parliament.
