Empty spaces on pharmacy shelves, and shortages of some cold and asthma medicines as well as appetite suppressants, are unintended consequences of the battle to prevent the manufacture of tik, an addictive methamphetamine widely abused in poor communities in the Western Cape.
Popular Cold Medicines Are Pulled From Market
An ingredient in over-the-counter cold and flu preparations has recently been linked to a slight risk of stroke in young women. US Federal Regulators have now announced that steps are being undertaken to ban all use of the active ingredient, phenylpropanolamine, or PPA, in these products.
