| STATUS: | Complete. Duration was August 2011 to September 2011 |
| FUNDER/S: | University Research Corporation (URC) |
| AREA: | North West Province |
| DESCRIPTION: |
The study addressed one of the National Research Priorities; namely interventions to improve treatment adherence and outcome among TB patients. The focus of the study is to investigate factors which influence mortality among patients diagnosed with TB and on TB treatment in the Ventersdorp sub-district which forms part of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda district in the North West Province. Factors associated with TB mortality have been studied in other countries, but have not yet been investigated in the North West Province in South Africa. Interpretation of the data was limited by missing data; however the analysis revealed some interesting trends particularly with regard to integration of HIV and TB care. |
