2nd Southern African Conference on Down Syndrome and Intellectual Disabilities


2005-09-29 to 2005-10-01

Down Syndrome South Africa in partnership with DICAG, SAFMH, SAHRC, DEPT OF HEALTH and the OSDP are proud to present our 2nd Southern African Conference on Down Syndrome and Intellectual Disabilities. At the Birchwood Conference Centre, Johannesburg.

The mission of this conference is to promote the rights of people with Down Syndrome and Intellectual Disability and their families, focusing on empowerment through the sharing of information, quality of life and the valuable contribution that can be made to families and society by persons with Down Syndrome and Intellectual Disabilities.

The main topics are: Human rights, Quality of Life, Education and Family Life. Workshops will be held focusing on: Early reading, Down Syndrome Health, Sexuality, Speech and Language Development, Supported Employment, Trans disciplinary teamwork, Strategies for inclusion in the classroom, Self Advocacy, Alternative therapies, and Independent Living.
