Master of Public Health in 2006

2005-09-01 to 2005-11-30

Applications are now invited for the Master of Public Health in 2006. The MPH aims to produce health professionals who are change agents in the field of public health. Through a careful assessment of your own needs and capacities, an individualised programme of study may be designed and undertaken, with the approval of the Academic Programme Co-ordinator, which will lead either to a General MPH or an MPH majoring in a special area of interest.

Who may apply?
You are eligible to apply if you hold an appropriate 4-year bachelors degree, and/or have prior experience that has provided you with a level of competence that is deemed by Senate to be adequate for the purpose of study in the MPH. You should be computer literate to enter the MPH. Additional screening criteria are applied.

Curriculum general and specialist MPH
The MPH is a fully modularised 192-credit course-work Masters, offered at NQF Level 8. It is offered part-time, with each module requiring an initial 2-3 days face-to-face contact at the beginning of the semester, and the subsequent 2-3 days offered as separate days, one day a month for the rest of the semester. Core modules (48 credits) include Health Measurement (Descriptive), Health Measurement (Analytic) and Research Methods and Bioethics. Students can choose from a variety of elective modules (112 credits) according to their interests. From 2006, students may register for an MPH in a specialised field (Epidemiology, Medical Informatics, Medicines Management, or Telemedicine).
