2008-05-29 to 2008-05-30In response to a growing public health crisis that targets primarily those most productive in the population, the public and private sectors have a significant role to play in managing HIV/AIDS and contributing to a comprehensive national response. South African-based research on HIV/AIDS in the workplace is at the cutting edge of the global response to the pandemic, and the need to document and replicate successful responses is critical. Wits Business School is hosting the second HIV/AIDS in the Workplace Research Symposium on the 29th and 30th of May.
Keynote addresses on: prevention, company experiences working with communities, HIV/AIDS and the second economy, and the public sector response to HIV/AIDS. Over thirty research papers: including risk, impact, stigma, peer educators, womens health, unions, traditional health practitioners, behaviour change, the second economy, and treatment uptake. Ten roundtable discussions: including discrimination, people living with HIV/AIDS in the workplace, workplace reporting & standards, sexual reproductive health and rights, corporate treatment programs, unions, local government, working with communities, treatment, second economy, and peer educators. The aims of the two-day symposium are to strengthen the existing network of researchers, and to promote and disseminate high quality applied research on HIV/AIDS in the workplace in an accessible manner among academics, business people and other interested stakeholders with a view to informing and improving workplace knowledge and practice. To register as a delegate at the symposium, go to the website.
