Masters in Epidemiology (LSHTM) (cum laude) and is also a Fellow

Project Assistant: District Health Barometer
Elliot joined HST in 2007 on an Internship programme aimed at promoting experience in HMIS, project coordination and management. He is currently working on the District Health Barometer project. He has gained experience in the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for mapping and data analysis. Prior to this, he was a learner information officer at the Polokwane Mankweng hospital complex in Limpopo.

Advisor. The role of the advisor
was to support the project and the DoH. The project support

design. Her qualifications are in web authoring, design and

Imeraan has two decades of practical experience in the Public health sector. He worked for the Western Cape Department of Health for sixteen and a half years in various different capacities at all levels of the health system. The first ten years was spent at a Secondary Hospital and the remaining years at provincial level in a Provincial Information Officer role. He has extensive experience and knowledge in both Hospital and Primary Health Care Information and a bit of GIS. Imeraan holds a qualification in Human Resource Management and still also remains passionate about that.

Irwin's previous experience
includes being Medical Director of The Valley Trust, Project
Leader of Natal Institute for Community Health Education, National
Director of National Progressive Primary Health Care Network, and
most recently a Public Health Physician in independent practice.
His current areas of interest in health development remain broad.
They include evidence-based action research to improve access,
equity and quality in the PHC & district health system,
macro-economics, poverty alleviation, public works, participatory
human resource development, community participation, CHWs, men's
involvement in health and of course the myriad ramifications of
HIV/AIDS, our most recent adversary. |

managing changes to data elements, and providing support in the

Women and HIV/AIDS Guage
Marion has worked both locally
and internationally in the area of HIV/AIDS and women's health and
HIV/AIDS for the past 15 years. She has participated and has been
responsible for a number of health policy initiatives including
the 1994 Women's Health Policy conference which resulted in
thirteen different policies. She has a background as a health worker, in medical
anthropology and in public development management. Her technical skills include: health systems qualitative and quantitative research in planning, methodology design, implementation, analysis, monitoring and evaluation.

School of Public Health, Wits University from 1998 to 2002. He was
involved in consultancy work before joining HST.

staff. He has worked at Technikon Natal in their IT Support

experience in most of the commonly used Office Suites and other

Health and Management. She has qualifications in Nursing and

Ross joined HST in March 1998 as an ISDS facilitator in the Mt Currie (sub)district of KwaZulu Natal where he gained valuable experience in district health system development, with a special interest in the role of communication in health delivery processes. After three years he joined the Research Section and participated in District Development monitoring projects and a Decentralisation collaborative initiative, together with financing and monitoring work in the field of Environmental Health. Ross is currently a member of the Healthlink cluster in the HMIS/M&E Team, where he has been involved in a variety of projects, including the National Health Information Systems (NHIS) project and the District Management Study. Ross has a Diploma in Forestry, a BSc (Economics and Geography) and a post graduate Diploma in Adult Education. |

Sibongile has a Masters in
Development Studies (University of Natal) and a teaching degree,
B.Paed., from University of Durban Westville. She acquired her
research experience by working for the School of Development
Studies and Centre for HIV/AIDS Networking (HIVAN) at the
University of Kwazulu-Natal in different research projects which
were mainly on HIV/AIDS and health. She also worked on projects
based in health facilities in Durban, McCord Hospital and King
Edward Hospital. Prior her involvement in research, she worked as
a teacher for more than 3 years in high schools around Durban and
Ezakheni, Ladysmith. |

Siyabonga has an Honours degree in Political Science (University of KwaZulu-Natal) and an undergraduate degree, B.Com. in Economics and Information Systems and Technology, from University of Durban Westville. He is currently doing his masters degree in public policy. He has been involved in a number of research projects and joint projects on HIV/AIDS while with Public Policy Partnership (PPP) at the University of Kwazulu-Natal.

Stiaan Byleveld was part of District Health Services and Public Health in the Northern Cape Province, South Africa for ten years before joining the Health Information Systems Project (HISP) team in 2002 as a Health Management Information Systems facilitator. Since then he gained valuable experience in District Health Information Systems with specific reference to Health Management Information Systems and Monitoring and Evaluation, working with organisations like the University of the Western Cape School of Public Health, Equity, Health Partners International, DFID, Health Systems Trust and others. He has a National Diploma in General Management and a Diploma in Managing Health and Welfare. His strengths are Project Management, District Health Information Systems Software, Geographical Information Systems, Health Management Information Systems and Monitoring and Evaluation. He also worked part time in Nigeria for three years, reviewing and strengthening the Health Management Information and Monitoring and Evaluation System in the country. Stiaan is currently employed by Health Systems Trust as a Health Information Systems and Monitoring and Evaluation project manager.

Wanda joined HST in 2002 as a
consultant to the Male Sexuality and ART Literacy projects. She is
currently a Site Facilitator for the ART Literacy Project based in
Mpumalanga Province. Prior to joining HST she had been a
Provincial HIV and AIDS Coordinator in KZN and a part time
Lecturer in the Durban-Umlazi Campus of the University of Zululand
(Nursing Science Department). She has a Masters degree in Public Health
and PHD (Public Health Nursing).
