South African Health Review (SAHR)Since 1995, the South African Health Review (SAHR) has been an annual publication of the Health Systems Trust. Viewed as an authoritative and comprehensive publication, the SAHR provides a current and longer-term review of health policy developments and their implementation in South Africa, and monitors changes and challenges in the provision of equitable and accessible health care in the country. The theme of the 13th edition of the Review, launched in December 2008, was Primary Health Care in South Africa: A review of 30 years since Alma Ata. The publication focuses on critical issues in Primary Health Care (PHC), and includes a national and international perspective of PHC. The chapters examine areas such as: policy and legislation; determinants of health; infectious diseases; mental health; maternal and child health; nutrition; and, environmental health. In addition, the SAHR examines PHC systems support. The publication also looks at research on health systems, the role of private and non-governmental organisations in PHC, as well as relevant health and related indicators.
