Cure rate (new Sm+ cases)

DefinitionPercentage of patients who are proven to be cured using smear microscopy at the end of treatment.

The cure rate for new smear positive patients is regarded as the key indicator in high-burden countries. South Africa is working towards achieving the accepted WHO target of an 85% cure rate for new smear positive cases.
