Annual population growth rate

DefinitionThe rate at which the population is increasing or decreasing in a given year expressed as a percentage of the base population size. It takes into consideration all the components of population growth, namely births, deaths and migration.

    Growth rates are for 1996-2002. StatsSA usually only provide such growth rates by province and gender. More accurate intra-provincial population growth rates are required to provide meaningful denominator data for the calculation of a range of health indicators at district level.
