Dr Faith Kumalo joined the Department of Basic Education in 2008. She is the Chief Director for Care and Support in Schools where she oversees the development, implementation and monitoring of Care and Support programmes in the schooling sector. She has been instrumental in the expression of the health agenda within the education sector through the development of key policies, strategies and programmes. She is the technical lead on health, nutrition, and care and support programmes in the schooling sector (primary and secondary schools). Dr Kumalo has over 20 years‟ experience in the health and education sectors in various capacities. Her areas of interest include the social determinants of health, primary health care, and youth and adolescent health. Dr Kumalo has qualifications in Medicine, Child Health, Clinical Evidence and Health Management as well as a Master of Public Health degree. She is currently pursuing a post graduate certificate in higher education.
