AIDS Law Project

Every day people living with HIV or AIDS face one problem after another because of discrimination. People struggle to get access to proper medical treatment, school for children and even work. It is difficult to buy a house because it is impossible to get insurance. Our children and families face harsh words from friends or colleagues. A LOT OF THIS DISCRIMINATION IS AGAINST THE LAW The AIDS Law Project (ALP) is at Wits University Centre for Applied Legal Studies. It is an organisation that specialises in helping people with HIV/AIDS to deal with these problems. We also research many of the difficult social, legal and human rights issues around AIDS. We use this research to develop law, policies and best practice recommendations on questions such as AIDS and employment, AIDS and pregnancy, AIDS and development, AIDS and women.
