South African Health Review launched

The 1999 South African Health Review was launched on the 9th February. A publication of the Health Systems Trust, the Review provides an in-depth and comprehensive analysis of developments in health and the health sector over the last 12 months.

There are 27 chapters in this Review. These cover a wide range of issues and are written by academics and specialists in the various fields. Chapter 1: Poverty, health and human rights Chapter 2: Legislation Chapter 3: Equity in public sector financing and expenditure Chapter 4: Managed health care Chapter 5: Health insurance dynamics Chapter 6: The private-public mix Chapter 7: Quality of STD care in the private sector Chapter 8: Patient choice of primary care provider Chapter 9: State-aided hospitals Chapter 10: Health services provided by religious communities Chapter 11: Establishing the district health system Chapter 12: District health information systems Chapter 13: Drug policy Chapter 14: Improving the quality of health services Chapter 15: Production of doctors Chapter 16: Distribution of human resources Chapter 17: Monitoring the implementation of community service Chapter 18: Traditional healers Chapter 19: Occupational health services Chapter 20: Environmental health services Chapter 21: Health Promotion Chapter 22: HIV/AIDS and STDs Chapter 23: Tuberculosis Chapter 24: Trauma and injury Chapter 25: Mental health Chapter 26: Termination of pregnancy Chapter 27: Health research In addition to the print edition of the 1999 South African Health Review, this valuable resource is also available electronically through the Health Systems Trust web site and on CD-ROM. Both of these resources in fact include a lot of additional information, having the Health Review in both text (HTML) and portable document format (PDF) for accurate printing. In addition you can access all previous versions of the SAHR and all other publications produced by the HST. On the HealthLink web site (also captured on the CD) is a page focusing on Health Legislation with access to all the relevant Bills, Acts, White Papers etc. Access to all of the information on the web sites is free of charge. Please note that some of the PDF files are quite large - for this reason each chapter can be downloaded separately or from the CD. The CDs are available for R50 from HST.
