SA scientist scoops international AIDS award

South African scientist Carolyn Williamson has been awarded a top international AIDS award for her research on HIV vaccines, Arts, Culture, Science and Technology Minister Ben Ngubane announced on Tuesday. The World Technology Award is given for innovative ideas likely to have an impact on the health industry and society.
Williamson's award demonstrates that great strides are being made by our scientists, Ngubane said.
The achievement also highlighted the successes of his department's AIDS programme, proving the government was committing considerable resources to eradicating HIV/AIDS, he said.
