Mapping HIV / AIDS Resources and Services in South Africa

The Health Systems Trust is a non-government organisation set up to provide technical assistance and support to the public health care system. It believes in the establishment of a fair, efficient and effective Primary Health Care service for all in South Africa. Key to meeting this challenge is the improvement and more equitable distribution of services and resources directed at the HIV/AIDS epidemic. A recent HST project funded by the Irish government is aiming to develop a comprehensive process for comprehensively mapping HIV/AIDS resources and services within one clearly demarcated health district / sub-district per province. The services and resources will include those in the health, education and welfare sectors, and incorporate both governmental and private services / resources. The specific objectives of the project are to: *Develop a framework for the mapping of HIV-related services within districts/sub-districts *Develop a user-friendly database for the collection and up-dating of such information. *Conduct a participatory mapping exercise in one sub-district per province. *Workshop the findings of the mapping exercise with the appropriate sub-district management teams and other stakeholders, including local government structures *Train and support sub-districts to develop appropriate and comprehensive HIV plans *Facilitate provincial HIV programmes to roll-out of this exercise to other sub-districts. We are looking for expressions of interest from individuals or organisations who feel they would be interested in working on such a project over the next two years. A full-time project coordinator is required to run the project under HST management, and organisations and individuals are needed to facilitate the process in each of the nine case study sites.
