Based in Durban. The Reproductive Health Research Unit (RHRU) is one of foremost South African Research Institutions engaged primarily in research and training in the field of sexual and reproductive health. The RHRU is an academic centre within the University of the Witwatersrand. The Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary company of the University of the Witwatersrand, employs RHRU staff. The Wits Health Consortium (WHC) and RHRU is an equal opportunity employer and all duties must be undertaken in accordance with EEO principles. The RHRU in collaboration with HST is seeking to recruit a Project manager for the National STI Initiative. The incumbent will be responsible for a range of STI activities and initiatives and will provide technical expertise to the initiative through project management, capacity building and maintaining and building links with collaborators. Specifically this position entails:- * Strategic oversight, management and co-ordination of the National STI Initiative * Providing expertise to the initiative through development of innovative training initiatives, managing research activities, and monitoring site based activities * Writing of funding proposals and liaising with donors, preparing reports and budgets * Building the profile of the STI Initiative at national level * Analysing and writing up reports for dissemination * Capacity building and training of staff Essential requirements are: * Expertise in the area of STIs * Medical degree with relevant post graduate qualifications eg Masters degree or experience in public health or epidemiology would be and advantage. * Minimum of 5 years senior management experience * Experience of financial and programmatic project management * Good communication skills * Experience with writing funding proposals * Excellent computer skills * Experience in developing and managing budgets * Editing and preparation of donor reports * Experience of presenting scientific data * Knowledge of current issues/debates in RH * Knowledge of conducting systematic literature searches/reviews Interested candidates should please send their CV’s and clearly marked motivation letter for the position Nat STI initiative Project manager: - Durban to The Human Resources Department, RHRU (031) 304 8468 or email to m.beksinska@rhru.co.za Applications close on 21st Nov 2002.
