Communications Manager

The Children's Institute (CI) contributes to policies and laws which promote equity and fulfil the rights of all children in South Africa. Our work is aimed at the realisation of children's socio-economic rights with a particular emphasis on children made vulnerable by inequity, poverty and HIV/AIDS. We have a multi-disciplinary team conducting research, policy drafting, teaching, training and advocacy. We are looking for four new staff members to join the team.
The CI has a critical interest in informing the views and actions of decision-makers, practitioners, funders and researchers who work on issues that affect children's wellbeing. The Communications Manager will manage and develop our communications and marketing functions to ensure that our work reaches the necessary audiences in timely and useful forms.

The Communications Manager will be required to:

Manage the development (assist with writing and editing),
production, and distribution of all CI publications

Stimulate the production of innovative products and media for
communicating our work

Market the CI and its work with various audiences including
government decision makers, academics and the media.

Manage the stakeholder database and develop and maintain
communication with stakeholders.

Assist with the strategic planning of workshops, conferences,
seminars, and other forums for engaging various audiences around children’s
policy issues.
Requirements:

A minimum of five years’ demonstrated experience in
communication strategy development and execution.

Strong writing, editing, production and distribution
management skills

Marketing/Advertising or proven good conceptualisation skills

Demonstrated management skills

An interest in and ability to engage with South African
politics

A relevant graduate degree, previous work in the policy arena,
an understanding of children’s rights and the goals of applied social
science research will be highly desirable.
Annual package range: R165 000 - R200 000
All positions are offered on a one year contract basis. The
final annual packages are dependent on the successful candidates' qualifications
and experience.
