The Health Systems Trust is a non-government organisation (NGO) that supports the development of an equitable comprehensive health system that provides quality health care. A central activity of the organisation is the support and commissioning of research that addresses key health priorities (currently decentralisation and district systems development, monitoring equity in health and health care, and HIV/AIDS - including prevention of mother-to- child transmission – PMTCT) We have a vacancy in the leadership of the Research Programme: DIRECTOR (2 year contract renewable depending on performance and/or need for position) The responsibilities of the position include: - Liaison with key stakeholders including government, academic institutions and funders - Overall management and co-ordination of research (development of a research agenda and priorities, operational plan and budgets) - Proposal writing and fundraising for research - Management and support to professional staff. - Quality control of research outputs of HST - Ensuring the utilisation of research information by key stakeholders. Requirements: The position is in senior management of the organisation. The ideal candidate should be in possession of post-graduate health (or equivalent) and management/leadership qualifications. The candidates should have at least 10 years of relevant experience in public health and research management. Remuneration: A salary package commensurate with experience and qualifications and in line with the HST’s Job grading will be offered to the successful candidate. Prospective incumbents should be prepared to travel, and preferably be based in Durban or Johannesburg.
