Co-ordinator of the Global Equity Gauge Alliance

This is an exciting opportunity for a committed, enthusiastic, and hard
working public health professional to work with world-renowned researchers,
advocates and policy-makers focused on cutting-edge public health work.
The Global Equity Gauge Alliance (GEGA) is dedicated to the promotion of
equity in health and health care through effective advocacy and community
action, based upon reliable information. GEGA focuses on fairness in health and
access to health care. GEGAs 13 country-based Equity Gauge projects, located
in South America, Africa, and Asia, monitor social inequalities and injustices
in the distribution of health and health care resources, and aim to ensure that
countries and communities can use this information to make a difference to those

We are looking for a dynamic, dedicated, and energetic person who can support
and promote the work of the Gauges and the GEGA Secretariat (now based in
Durban, South Africa).
Responsibilities
- Supporting the work of Equity Gauges
- Preparing grant applications, briefings, and reports identifying and
communicating with potential funders and supporting individual Equity Gauge
fundraising activities
- Tracking and documenting the activities of Equity Gauges
- Supporting regional networks through the Gauges
- Promoting the work of GEGA at the national and international levels,
including through meetings and joint alliance work
- Supporting the development of leadership for greater equity among
countries of the South
- Supporting capacity development initiatives, including development of
curricula
- Identifying partners and networking with other groups, including human
development and social justice networks, coalitions, and organisations
- Supporting uptake of health equity issues by other social sectors and
civil society groups in countries and internationally
- Responding to information requests
- Preparing and editing reports and documents, and ensuring their
dissemination
- Planning international meetings
Requirements
- Masters degree or equivalent with a background in public health, public
policy, or related field
- 3 or more years experience working with civil society networks at the
international level
- Experience and skills with fund-raising
- Good understanding of health equity issues, health systems issues, and
public health
- A high level of professionalism
- Outstanding management and organizational skills and ability to develop
capacity and leadership potential of others
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Research skills, including strong internet research skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team commitment to
building GEGA as an organisation
- Willingness to travel
- A commitment to health equity, community empowerment, and improvement of
health systems
- Preferably
from the South, or having many years experience of working
in the South
Remuneration. The salary package will be commensurate with experience and
qualifications and in line with the HSTs grading system.
This is a two year contract position with the possibility of extension
depending on availability of funds. The post will be based in Durban, and the
incumbent should be prepared to travel internationally.
