Health Information Systems Technical Advisor
HST 2005-04-01
To provide health information systems technical support to selected managers in the National Department of Health, in strengthening on aspects of the District Health Information System software and data to improve management of the health system and health programmes.
LOCATION: PRETORIA
JOB PURPOSE: To provide health information systems technical support to selected managers in the National Department of Health, in strengthening on aspects of the District Health Information System software and data to improve management of the health system and health programmes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify and define priority Health Information System (HIS) and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) needs and intervention strategies at national level
- Building an appropriate skills base in HIS, M&E, and planning
- Strengthening health information components of key elements of program management
- Assist in implementation of a comprehensive project monitoring and evaluation plan
- Contributing to project and organisational well-being
- Documentation of successful interventions
REQUIREMENTS:
- Appropriate degree (or equivalent) in health or social science
- A post graduate qualification in Public Health or related field would be an advantage
- 5 years working experience in Health Information Systems
- Experience in area of epidemiology an advantage
- Previous management experience an advantage

- Proficient in facilitating skills, group skills and dynamics, conflict management and managing diversity
- Understanding of relevant technical skills with focus on PHC, DHS and priority programs such as STI/HIV, TB and MCWH as well as Strategic Planning
- Computer literate (internet, e-mail, MsOffice programs as well as DHIS)
- Good writing and communication skills
- Good presentation skills

REMUNERATION : A salary package commensurate with experience and qualifications and in line with the HSTs Job grading will be offered to the successful candidates.
