South African Launch of the Global Health Watch 2005-2006, an alternative world health report
The Global Health Watch
2006-06-09

Health for All, not the privileged few....

This alternative world health report offers a hard-hitting and evidence based assessment of the political economy of health and health care. Vicente Navarro, Editor in Chief, International Journal of Health Sciences, describes the report as a very good reference for people working in areas affecting the health of populations because it deals with some of the most important issues in today's world. The report, which provides a comprehensive survey of the key areas that influence the health of poor and vulnerable groups, suggests solutions and monitors the efforts of institutions and governments concerned with promoting health world-wide.

It is a much-needed resource, unique, and reflecting the work of well qualified authors from all continents says Philip R Lee, MD, Professor of Social Medicine (Emeritus), University of California . The report advocates action to overcome the political, social and economic barriers to fairer health . Andy Haines, Dean, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine notes that the report combines academic analysis with a call to mobilise the health professional community to press for improvements in global health and justice. I hope it will be read by many health professionals in rich and poor countries alike he says.
