Intern District Health Barometer Project

We are seeking to appoint an Intern on a one year fixed-term contract to assist with the District Health Barometer (DHB) project and the HealthLink Cluster with respect to providing effective, accurate and useful health systems information.


The DHB is a valuable tool used to monitor the performance of district health services and the quality of district health information in South Africa. The publication has a wide application in the provision and strengthening of the health system and the equitable distribution of health in South Africa, and has received national and international recognition.

LOCATION: Durban

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To contribute to the compilation and dissemination of the DHB and other health indicator information
  • To work with DHIS software in order to collect and to analyse DHIS data
  • To analyse Census data and other related socio-economic data
  • To participate in the preparation of the draft and final DHB reports, GIS mapping and graphic representation of data
  • Database and information management.

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications:

  • Appropriate degree (or equivalent) in IT, Computer Science or a health-related degree with strong IT/ Database management focus and experience.

Experience

  • Experience with working with statistics / statistical analysis would be an advantage.

Competencies

  • Ability to perform complex work in analysing data and using health information
  • Computer literate (internet, e-mail, MsOffice programs, database management)
  • Ability to work independently with some support
  • Valid drivers license

REMUNERATION:

A salary package commensurate with experience and qualifications and in line with the HST's Job Grading System will be offered to the successful candidate.
