Health Systems Trust is seeking to employ a researcher with an interest in maternal and child health. This appointment is particularly suitable for a public health professional who wishes to undertake health systems and epidemiological research as part of their Doctoral studies. This position is based in Cape Town with regular travel to research sites in other provinces.
LOCATION: Cape Town
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To develop and strengthen HST&rsquos capacity to conduct research within the field of Maternal and Child Health.
- To assist in securing funding to undertake and sustain research projects within the field of work.
- To manage projects undertaken &ndash this includes conceptualisation, design and planning of projects, management of financial and human resources, dissemination of findings and ensuring optimal management of relationships with partners, contractors and other stakeholders.
- To ensure regular outputs from research projects including reports, peer reviewed publications and conference presentations.
- To manage partnerships with collaborating institutions and consultants.
REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications:
- A Masters in Public Health or Epidemiology degree
- 2 years project or management qualification.
Experience:
- 2 years experience in undertaking Maternal and Child Health research studies (both qualitative and quantitative)
- Experience in Project management
- Sound knowledge and experience with statistical programmes (STATA or SAS).
Competencies:
- Intellectual &ndash strategic and analytic ability to make appropriate judgements
- Ability to conceptualise research studies
- Organisational &ndash planning, communication and networking
- Technical - research methodology and design (qualitative and quantitative)
- Epidemiology and statistics knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of the health system and of public health
- IT &ndash knowledge of word processing, e-mail and spreadsheets
- Financial &ndashbudgeting and financial reporting skills
- Good writing and communication skills, including report writing
- Ability to work independently with some support
- Valid Code B (Code 08) drivers licence and willingness to travel.

REMUNERATION:
A salary package commensurate with experience and qualifications and in line with the HST&rsquos Job Grading System will be offered to the successful candidate.
