Expert Patient Program Coordinator

Nature of Employment: One year

Location: Mbabane, Swaziland

Minimum Qualification: Degree in Social Science, Psychology or Health related degree. Person living HIV/AIDS and enrolled in care and treatment preferred, but not a requirement.

Major duties and responsibilities

• Provide overall coordination for the national expert patient program, which will include 52 expert patients assigned to sites throughout the country.
• Work with site level staff to select and interview expert patient candidates (initially and if there is attrition over time).
• Work closely with Site Supervisors to coordinate and provide supportive supervision to 52 expert patients, stationed at VCT/ART centers, PHUs, Health Centers and selected clinics.
• Work with USG/other donor-supported organizations supporting ART/VCT/pMTCT services at sites in Swaziland as well as with SWANNEPHA and other PLWHA associations in Swaziland.
• Ensure that expert patients are being properly supported by clinical staff at each site and integrated into the multi disciplinary care teams.
• Coordinate the monthly disbursement of expert patient stipends, expert patient &ldquokits&rdquo and other materials to support adherence to care and treatment.
• Meet regularly with expert patients, and provide on-site supportive supervision.
• Monitor and evaluate expert patient performance through coordination with Site Coordinators, on-site mentoring and through expert patients&rsquo monthly summaries.
• Compile services statistics on clients seen and services provided by expert patients. Include this and other program activity descriptions in monthly and quarterly reports to the MOHSW Care and Treatment Coordinator.
• Plan and coordinate quarterly review and support meetings for expert patients.
• Plan and coordinate on-going training for expert patients, in coordination with ICAP-Swaziland.
• Ensure that expert patients get the clinical and social support they need as HIV/AIDS program clients themselves.
• Work with implementing partners to enhance linkages of patients from VCT and pMTCT services to the ART program.
• With the growth of the program: Organize formation and support expert patients to lead site-specific PLWHA support groups, and ensure that all expert patients are actively involved with them.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

• Knowledge of HIV/AIDS care and treatment, especially adherence and psychosocial support issues at the facility and community levels.
• Prior experience supervising lay workers or community-level workers advantageous.
• Administrative skills (such as basic bookkeeping, record keeping, and basic analysis and reporting of program data)
• Report writing and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Non-judgmental attitude and capacity to effectively support expert patients.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.

This position will require 30% travel to sites required.
