HST CELEBRATES ITS 2OTH ANNIVERSARY WITH A DIFFERENCE

Twenty years ago, in 1992, a group of visionaries – most now leading figures in our country – sat together and established an organisation to support the transformation of the health system on its path into a new democratic South Africa.  This Founding Board of Trustees, led by Prof. Jairam Reddy and including names like Drs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Olive Shisana, can be truly proud of what they set in motion.  Today Health Systems Trust stands as a beacon of support to our health system.
Much has been achieved in health systems strengthening in the intervening years. HST’s current leadership and staff are fully aware that the organisation’s contribution is largely due to the ongoing cooperation and support of the country’s health structures and the communities that we all serve with passion and devotion.

Commenting on the organisation’s 20th year anniversary, CEO Jeanette Hunter acknowledged the role of the various funders that supported HST over the years. “Our multiple and varied funders and clients have put extraordinary faith and trust in us, thereby enabling us to contribute what we have.”

“Mindful of the debt that we owe to our supporters and communities, we have planned a 20-year celebration with a difference.  Firstly, a one-day seminar will be held to explore developments in the South African health system over the past two decades.  Secondly, to acknowledge the involvement of the communities of South Africa in sustaining the existence of our organisation, HST staff, with some partners and dignitaries, will participate in a social responsibility exercise at the Umsunduzi Bridge Clinic.

In line with the principles of partnership and long term commitment to the strategy of improving infrastructure and service provision, we want this involvement with the Primary Health Care facilities to result in more than just a facelift. We would like to leave behind an improvement in the infrastructure which will assist clinic staff to deliver a better quality service. HST has always striven to make a lasting difference” said Hunter.

“HST steps into the next 20 years with confidence and excitement.  Our commitment to our founding Trustees and to our clients and communities will continue to shape the nature and quality of our inputs’ she continued.

Members of the press are invited to attend both events.
