The Equity Gauge Project of the Health Systems Trust focuses on fairness in access to health and health care. A partnership with National and Provincial Parliamentarians, the project monitors inequalities in health and health care and aims to ensure that this information can be used to make a difference to those parts of the country and those communities with the poorest health and the greatest need. The project is part of a Global Alliance of Equity Gauges which drew their initial inspiration from the South African project.
We are looking for a dynamic and energetic person who can strengthen civil society participation in the project by building links with organisations and stakeholders including Trade Unions, Churches, NGOs, the media and academic institutions. You will enjoy lobbying and networking with a wide range of organisations, be confident in dealing with the media and be able to package research on health and equity issues in ways that make the information accessible and appropriate to civil society, including the media.
A good understanding of health systems issues, coupled with experience of public relations, Trade Union and/or media experience would be the ideal background for this exciting and challenging post.
The ideal candidate should be in possession of an appropriate University degree of equivalent.
A salary package commensurate with experience and qualifications and in line with the HST’s Job grading will be offered to the successful candidate.
This is a 2-year contract position, and will be extended depending on the incumbent’s performance and need for the position.
The incumbent should be prepared to travel, and preferably be based in Durban.
