Research Director and Deputy Director

The Health Systems Trust is a non-government organisation (NGO)that supports the development of an equitable comprehensive health system that provides quality health care. A central activity of the organisation is the support and commissioning of research that addresses key health priorities (currently decentralisation and district systems development, monitoring equity in health and health care and HIV/AIDS - including prevention of mother to child transmission–PMTCT)

We have 2 vacancies for positions of management of our research activities:

DIRECTOR
(2 year contract renewable depending on performance and/or need for position)

The responsibilities of the position include:

  • Overall management and co-ordination of research (development of a research agenda and plan budgets)
  • Management and support to professional staff.
  • Ensuring the utilisation of research information by key stakeholders.
  • Liaison with key stakeholders including government and academic institutions.

DEPUTY DIRECTOR
(1 year contract renewable depending on performance and/or need for position)

The incumbent will support the Director in caring out his/her responsibilities, including those mentioned hereabove with a specific focus on the management of research processes relating to HIV/AIDS (including PMTCT)

Requirements:

Both positions are senior in the management of the organisation. The ideal candidates should be in posession of post-graduate health (or equivalent) and management/leadership qualifications. Prospective candidates should have at least 10 years (7 years in the case of Deputy Director) of relevant experience in public health and research management.

Remuneration:

A salary package commensurate with experience and qualifications and in line with the HST’s Job grading will be offered to the successful candidate.

The incumbents should be prepared to travel, and preferably be based in Durban.
