DESCRIPTION: This project will assess the public health, epidemiological and general managerial competencies among managers at sub-district level with the DHS across the country in the context of the re-engineered PHC framework. The first phase of the project is qualitative study that will determine the core public health, epidemiological and general managerial competency requirements for sub-district managers with the DHS. Interviews were conducted with key informants including public health experts, primary healthcare experts, and senior managers within the health system.

The second phase of the project is a quantitative and qualitative assessment of these competencies among PHC health facility and other sub-district managers in the District Health System in selected provinces. 
OBJECTIVES:
  • To determine the core public health, epidemiological and general managerial competencies required by managers at sub-district level within the DHS in the context of the PHC re-engineering framework
  • To develop a tool for assessing the public health, epidemiological and managerial competencies of PHC and health facility managers at sub-district level
  • To assess the public health, epidemiological and general managerial competencies and proficiency levels of PHC and health facility managers at sub-district level
