Outlines the progress made in implementing an Integrated Nutrition Programme in the Lower Orange Region or District of the Northern Cape |
| More Details |
This situation analysis was undertaken with a number of different aims and a number of different target audiences in mind. These were:
- To act as a resource document for health and other service providers in the district.  Health services have historically been provided in a fragmented manner and the process of drawing all information together can be an important step in developing a more integrated approach to nutrition and nutrition services. No primary research was undertaken the analysis rather aimed to collate and review all information that is currently available.
- To outline the progress which has been made within the district and the province as a whole in implementing a decentralised and integrated nutrition programme. Although conditions in other provinces are often different to those in the Northern Cape, other districts and provinces can learn from the Northern Cape experience.
- It is hoped that the report will motivate other districts to undertake a similar situation analysis of nutritional status and interventions in their districts as an important step in developing and implementing a District Integrated Nutrition Programme. It is hoped that the framework, which was used for this situation analysis, will prove useful to other districts.
