From July 2006 to January 2007 audits in the different provinces of South
Africa were carried out, to assess the staffing of the health information system
sector and the availability and access to appropriate equipment. The following
areas were included in the audit:
- human resource issues,
- human resources skills,
- IT equipment and access to information.
This was a comprehensive audit and all available Health Information System (HIS) staff members throughout the country were interviewed. In total 677 HIS staff members were interviewed. The results highlighted several main areas
