|  | | Lalita Harie has an illustrious career in the mental health field, spanning over 40 years, of which almost 20 were served as Executive Director of a large mental health NGO in South Africa. Ms Harie has a wealth of experience in strategy, people and community development, operational management, governance, and service delivery. Her formal qualifications include a BA in Social Work, an Honours in Psychology, and a host of courses in leadership and governance. She has received numerous recognition awards and acknowledgements, including being selected by the U.S Department of State for Mental Health Programmes for their International Visitors Leadership Programme (IVLP) twice, the second time as an IVLP Gold Star Alumni Participant. She has also participated in numerous conferences in the mental health field.
| HST Trustee | 07 | |  | | Salome Maswime is a Full Professor and the Head of the Global Surgery Division at UCT; and an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. She is a member of the Academy of Science South Africa. She is the vice-President of the Women in Global Health South Africa; and member of the FIGO Committee on Ethical Aspects of Human Reproduction. After specialising she completed her MMED and PHD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She did a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. She has received numerous awards for her research contribution, including the trailblazer and young achiever award by the President of South Africa in 2017, and the 20 Young Shapers of the Future in Health and Medicine by Encyclopedia Brittanica.
| Chairperson | 01 | |  | | Mr Leo Deodutt has a Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, and a Master's degree in Taxation (UDW), and is currently finalising his DBA at UKZN's Graduate School of Business and Leadership. He is a Senior Lecturer based at UKZN's School of Accounting, Economics and Finance, where he is responsible for the Financial Planning Institute (FPI) accredited programmes. His focal areas include investments, portfolio construction, taxation and audit and risk management. He is the former acting Head of Internal Audit (UDW) and is currently serving as the Chairman of the UKZN Provident Fund and the Chairman of the UKZN Pension and Provident Fund's Investment committee. He is an active researcher, having successfully supervised many Masters students, and has published in High Impact Journals.
| Deputy Chairperson | 02 | |  | | Advocate Bridgette Sehlapelo holds an LLB degree, LLM (Masters in Tax), Certificate in Legislation drafting, and Certificate in Competition Law from the University of Pretoria. She further holds an MBL (Masters in Business Leadership) degree from UNISA School of Business Leadership. She was admitted as an Attorney in 2002 and started her career as a practising Attorney and later moved to various state-owned enterprises where she was an in-house legal practitioner on different levels, including Senior management/Executive. During her tenure as an in-house legal practitioner, she worked in different institutions, specialising in various areas of law. Advocate Sehlapelo later joined the Advocate's Bar where she is presently practising as an Advocate.

He qualified in medicine and public health from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He brings several years experience in the areas of health systems policy development and programme implementation, HIV and TB. He has co-authored several articles in the areas of HIV and TB. He serves as a member of the National HIV Think Tank and the Community Health Worker Think Tank of the National Department of Health.

She holds BA (Psychology and Sociology) and BSc Hons (Psychology) degrees. She is the Director of the Human Palette, a human resource management and training consulting firm, is a certified facilitator and assessor for the Education Training and Development (EDTP) SETA and serves on the boards of Deliver a youth development NGO and Argon Securities. | HST Trustee | 06 | |  | | Lerole David Mametja is currently the Head of
Department, Core Operations with the Health Professions Council of South Africa
(HPCSA). Prior to that, he was Chief Programme Officer of the TB and HIV Care (an
NGO that supports South Africa’s response to its twin epidemics of TB and HIV),
as well as the National TB Programme (NTP) Manager (Chief Director), in the
National Department of Health for 11 years until June 2019. He has more than 20
years of experience in public health. He has held executive management
positions, including as CEO of the Health Systems Trust (HST), an NGO
supporting public-private partnerships in health. He served as Programme
Executive of TB HIV Care until December 2019, and has been a Non-executive
Director/Board Member from January 2020. He holds a Masters’ Degree in Public Health
(MPH) in Health Policy and Management from Columbia University, New York.
| HST Trustee | 10 | |  | | Dr Peter Barron is an independent public health consultant with extensive experience of health systems research, monitoring and evaluation, health sector management and delivery of primary health care and health systems strengthening, especially in sub-Saharan Africa (including in-depth expertise in the management of HIV, TB and MCH programmes). He has a keen understanding of The Global Fund and how it works at global and country levels. He has a background in accounting and understands the issues of health financing and sustainability from a developing country, sub-Saharan African perspective. He was a member of the TERG of The Global Fund (2018 to 2022) and is an honorary Associate Professor at the School of Public Health, University of the Witwatersrand (since 2017).
| 2nd Deputy Chairperson | 03 | |  | | Zitha Mokomane, who holds Master's and PhD degrees in Demography from the Australian National University, is currently Professor and Head in the Department of Sociology at the University of Pretoria. Prior to that, she was Chief Research Specialist at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) where she undertook policy-oriented research in various research programmes including Population Health, Health Systems and Innovation. She has extensive research, policy and programmatic expertise in the areas of family demography, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, social protection, social policy analysis, as well as monitoring and evaluation. She holds C2 rating from the National Research Foundation. Those rated at this level are established researchers in their area of research with some international recognition for the quality and impact of their recent research outputs.

medical doctor and public health specialist with 41 years of experience in the
public health sector, including 11 years of front-line service delivery in KwaZulu-Natal province
and 26 years in senior management in the Western Cape Department of Health. He has
extensive knowledge and experience leading and managing health services and
strengthening health systems through systems thinking, providing strategic
leadership, developing health sector
policies and strategies, developing public health intelligence, tracking
health systems performance, and overseeing digital/health information systems.
He currently serves a technical advisor to the Clinton Health Access Initiative
(CHAI).
| HST Trustee | 12 | |  | | Christo Heunis is an associate professor at the Centre for Health Systems Research & Development, University of the Free State, South Africa. His research interest is in public health systems strengthening – particularly regarding programmes to mitigate tuberculosis (TB), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and the TB-HIV co-epidemic. Heunis is the vice-chairperson of the Free State Health Research Committee, a statutory body serving to coordinate health research and facilitate the efficient utilisation of limited health research resources. He is also a member of the National Health Research Committee with its mandate to set health research priorities. He has authored/co-authored ten book chapters and more than 50 articles and has supervised or is currently supervising six doctoral and 36 master's degree candidates. He has held an 'established researcher' ranking with the National Research Foundation since 2007.
| HST Trustee | 13 | |  | | Rudolf Mbanjwa is a Managing Director at RMMCA Inc., an auditing practice which he founded in 2019. He is a former lecturer at the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN) in the Auditing discipline within the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance. Rudolf is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a Registered Auditor. He also holds a Masters in Accounting degree from UKZN, which he completed with a dissertation that investigated ethics and the professional scepticism of accountants and auditors. Rudolf also holds a Batchelors in Theology from Cornerstone School of the Spirit. He has extensive experience in both private and public sector auditing – having previously worked at EY, SNG-GT, Auditor-General, and the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA). Rudolf has a keen interest in good governance of organisation and in ethical conduct of accountants and auditors. He is a former board member at Meals on Wheels KNFSA, former Trustee and Audit Committee Chairperson of the UKZN Pension & Provident Funds, and current independent Chairperson of the Audit Committee of Ndwedwe Local Municipality.
| HST Trustee | 5 | |  | | ANTHONY KINGHORN - MBBCh (Wits) MA (Oxon) BSc (Wits) DHFM (UCT) - is a health economist, doctor and public health practitioner with over 30 years of experience in health systems research, planning and advocacy through work with government and non-government partners at local, national, regional and global levels. He has a particular interest in producing and using public health and economic information in effective processes to enhance prioritisation and value for money in practical decision-making for policy, sectoral and programme planning, and health system strengthening. His work has mainly covered Southern, Eastern, West African and global initiatives. He is currently a Health Finance Specialist at the Global Fund for HIV, TB and Malaria. Prior to this he worked as Director for the UNAIDS Technical Support Mechanism (TSM). In this and previous work he has focused on increasing the efficiency, effectiveness, impact and sustainability of countries' health systems, PHC and HIV and TB responses. In parallel, he was a health economist for research units at the University of the Witwatersrand, exploring economic aspects of clinical interventions, programmes and health systems. His early work in South Africa was on primary health care and district health systems development, including National Health Insurance and public partnerships with non-government providers. He has substantial experience of multi-sectoral PHC and HIV responses, as well as innovative health financing. His further interests include capacity development through developing systems, skills and effective technical support.
