SPECIAL EDITION: HEALTH SECTOR RESPONSES TO COVID-19 - WHAT HAVE WE LEARNT?

The editors of the 2021 edition of the South African Health Review (SAHR) are currently inviting the submission of abstracts that examine health-sector responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly from the following perspectives: strengthening health systems; leadership and governance; resource allocation and financing; service delivery, human resources, and medical equipment and supplies.
Preference will be given to abstracts on topics that consider:
- the impact of COVID-19 on existing health services and programmes;
- the impact of socio-economic disparities on prevention and treatment;
- the rationing of healthcare services and implications for equity of access;
- strengthening of the country’s social compact, and emergence of innovative collaborations and partnerships;
- impact of measures taken to balance saving lives with saving livelihoods; and/or
- emerging lessons for the future management and prevention of pandemics and other public health emergencies.
Please take note of the following:
- Abstracts should be submitted to sahr@hst.org.za using the official SAHR abstract template.
- The body of the abstract may not exceed 300 words.
- Guidelines for authors are accessible here and strict adherence to these guidelines is essential.
- Submission of an abstract for the SAHR does not guarantee acceptance. All abstracts will undergo a systematic assessment process conducted by the SAHR Editorial Advisory Committee.
The South African Health Review is a peer-reviewed publication accredited with the Department of Higher Education and Training. The aims of the SAHR are to advance the sharing of knowledge, feature critical commentary on policy implementation, and offer empirical studies for improving South Africa’s health system.
